This is a community where you can post your favorite Youtube videos of Broadway shows and stars. The idea is that there are lots of people who enjoy Broadway but don't have a chance to get there very often, because it's expensive and far away from most people. Youtube vids are a nice way of catching bits of performances that people otherwise wouldn't have a chance to see at all. It's also a way of making people aware of performers and performances that they might not have been aware of before. No level of Broadway knowledge is expected or necessary, so post anything at all that you enjoy - there might be someone out there who hasn't seen it yet!
The hope here is that people who enjoy Broadway, ranging from people who love it with a passion that is central to their lives to people who aren't exposed to much theater at all but like it anyway, can come together and broaden their knowledge and enjoyment of theater. As such, snobbery about one's own knowledge of Broadway or about others' lack of it is decidedly uncool. Discussion of Broadway shows may of course occur in the comments and you are of course free to say that you don't enjoy a particular show, composer, or performer, but if you come off as a troll or if you're being particularly rude you get one heads-up and if you keep going your comments are gone.
Apart from that, the rules are few and relaxed. Post whatever Broadway-related stuff you like: performances of Broadway songs or scenes, interviews with Broadway stars, clips from the Tonys and other theatrical awards, clips from movie musicals, whatever. Off-Broadway stuff is fine if you feel like posting it. Before or after the video, please post a little note saying what it is and why you like it. The template for posting Youtube videos to LJ posts is <lj-template name="video">LINK TO THE VIDEO, BEGINNING WITH HTTP://</lj-template>.
Don't post to this comm asking people for bootlegs or other illegally obtained material. 'S illegal and a TOSsable offense. As far as posting to the comm goes, the posting of videos containing copyrighted material to Youtube is legal if the copyright owner's permission has been obtained, and unless it's deleted we have no way of knowing its legality; therefore, we default to assuming that it is legal, the principle of innocent-until-proven-guilty being what it is. If you have the means to be certain that something you are posting was illegally obtained, don't post it. If you own the copyright to any of the videos posted to this community (and can document your ownership rights), we will remove any postings containing your videos immediately upon your request.
EDIT AS OF 8/25/07: No community spamming. People who join the community and retain membership long enough that it is clear they are not joining solely for the purpose of spamming may be allowed, at the mod's discretion, to pimp other communities - "at the mod's discretion" being an operative phrase. Those who join just long enough to pimp a tangentially related community, then leave, will have their posts deleted. If the mod gets a spammy vibe from a promo post, the post will be deleted. Thanks.
